W.M.W. Pick: Dexys Midnight Runners – “Too-Rye-Ay” (1982)

Today marks my 32nd birthday.  Happy birthday to me!  You know who else was born on August 17?  Robert DeNiro!  Sean Penn!  Davy Crockett!  Jorge Posada!  Mae West!  David Koresh!  And of course we can’t forget Kevin Rowland,
the frontman for the ultimate one-hit-wonder band, Dexys Midnight Runners.

How could you not like this band?  They wore overalls, played banjos and fiddles and accordions, and looked like they hadn’t bathed in weeks.  They also sounded like they were having tons of fun, in a straight-out-of-a-bar kind of way.  They’re kind of like the Mumford & Sons of the 80s.  Plus it’s hard for a song to get much catchier than “Come On Eileen.”  “Eileen, I’ll hum this tune forever.” Indeed.

Whatever happened to the Yo-Y0? Why don’t people play it anymore? I remember people used to do tricks like “Walk the Dog”, “The Sleeper”, and “Feed the Biddy” but the best parts of this video aren’t his tricks, it’s when he takes a brake to dance with the music and make stupid faces. This kid is mad talented though.

Slob News: Prostitution Sting at N.J. Dunkin Donuts

ROCKAWAY, N.J. — A 29-year-old woman working the night shift at Dunkin Donuts faces prostitution charges for allegedly taking breaks from selling donuts and coffee to provide sexual services in exchange for money. Melissa Redmond, 29, of Mine Hill, was arrested after a six week investigation known as “extra sugar” that began when police got a tip that people could go to the Dunkin Donuts on Route 46 and arrange a liason with Redmond.

Police have seized Britain’s largest ever cocaine haul, worth up to £300 million, from a luxury yacht which had sailed from the Caribbean, officials said. The 1.2-tonne stash was found hidden under the bathing deck of the pleasure cruiser docked in the port of Southampton in southeast England, Britain’s Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) and UK Border Agency (UKBA) said Wednesday.
